Help[Opinions] Marlowe
I really like Marlow and Marlowe for a girl at the moment. Opinions? The only thing I dislike is that Sienna Miller used it for her daughter. Is it too strongly associated with her? She named her daughter Marlowe so I prefer to use Marlow instead. Which spelling do you prefer? There's also Marlo.
As they are too similar for sister, which do you prefer? Meadow or Marlow?

Why does this name make me think of fish? Just googled it and I guess it reminds me of marlin fish. I actually like the sound, but I prefer Harlow or Arlo, the "m" is throwing me off a little bit.
I didn't even know that Sienna Miller named her daughter Marlowe so no I wouldn't say it's too strongly associated with her lol. Marlowe is a nicer spelling imo. I much prefer Marlowe to Meadow...I think the name Meadow is kind of silly, I mean...it's like a meadow. It just sounds too much like a word to me, I can't process it as a name.

I barely remember who Sienna Miller is so I doubt very much the name is tied to her or any other celebrity.
I kind of like Marlow. It has a roughness that I like. I associate it with the PI but I don't object to seeing it on a girl. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I kinda like it.

As long as you don't mind two M's then it's fine. I know how much you love Meadow but I'd be sad to see Marlow pushed to the sidelines by it. There's a new show called "Cult" where a character is named Meadow. I thought of your posts immediately, hehe. Can't say much for the show, though, or the character as she's MIA.

I like Marlo, but the Marlowe spelling has a sinister edge for me. I'm not sure why. When I was in high school, one of my best friends had a little sister named Marlowe who was a perfectly nice kid.

Between Meadow and Marlow(e), I'd pick Meadow. Meadow and Marlo is a tougher choice; I'd pick Marlo.

Oh, Marlowe is the best!
I love it because of Christopher Marlowe. Marlow is just another surname, but Marlowe has historical context and meaning and the E adds so much elegance.
Eck, Meadow no. Yuck. Marlow. But honestly, I think the vast majority of people aren't going to know that Sienna Miller spells it a certain way. If they do associate Marlowe with her, which they might not (she's not THAT famous), they'll associate Marlow as well. Like people will assume Brangelina Shiloh, even if it's spelled Shilo.

Me too! I'd usually prefer Marlowe by far, especially because of Christopher Marlowe. But I fear that many people will now associate it with Sienna Miller instead of Christopher Marlowe which is why I'm thinking about using Marlow instead. On the other hand I just found out that another celeb named his daughter Marlowe and there's a celeb baby named Marlo around as well so it might not get too tied to Sienna Miller. But you're probably right about the spelling, so I might stick with Marlowe after all. The thing is they gave her the middle name Ottoline which is also one of my favorites and honors my grandfather who was Otto. Ahhhhhhh. I will definitely not use the combo now, though.

Normally I pontificate about not using surnames unless they are from one's own family tree. But I confess I did come up with the combo Celia Marlowe for a series of polls on Shakespearean inspired names. I do love the sound of it and somehow when it honors an artist like Christopher Marlowe is seems less tacky than the usual anyone-else's-surname trend. But the bottom line is I did use it. *blushes*
But I'm out and proud in my love for Meadow. Apart from the obvious, lovely imagery, I love the sound of it. It has an old English feeling too. Love, love it.

It's nice to know that someone else really liked Meadow. It's been my favorite for almost two years now.
