[Facts] Aleria, Aléria
I'm looking for the meaning of the girls' name Aleria/Aléria.Aleria is the name of a town on the island of Corsica, France, which over the centuries has been used as a feminine given name off and on. In recent years Aleria (sometimes spelt Aléria, the French form of the town's name) has also found some usage in mainland France.
I've done a little research on the origins of this name, but all I've found were some rather dubious looking websites. Some of these sites claim that Aleria is a Latin name meaning "eagle-like" or "resembling an eagle", others state it might mean something along the lines of "high laurel" or "high laureate". Both of these meanings seem like a stretch to me, especially since none of the sites give any etymology whatsoever.
I have also read that Aleria was the name the Romans gave to the town. Its "original" Ancient Greek name seems to have been Ἀλαλίη (Alaliē).
So I suppose what I'm really looking for are both the meanings of Aleria and Ἀλαλίη, Alaliē.I know that this is a rather specific question so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
