I used to love it but the only place I've heard it is in The Phantom of the Opera.
Raoul Anatole
Raoul Wilhelm
Raoul Bertrand
Raoul Marius
Raoul Augustin

Same as Raul, always with Castro in my associations. Good first name for a Communist.

Sorry, but I can't help thinking of the Phantom's rival (in The Phantom of the Opera), so, ICK. Phantom forever. ;)

Hehe...I'm drawn to root for the Phantom as well, but Raoul was a decent guy (in the original ALW play) so he doesn't ruin the name for me. Unfortunately the ALW sequel, which I caught the majority of on a PBS broadcast ruined, unnecessarily in my mind, a few characters, Raoul included, so I'm currently just blocking that all out as if it never existed, Ramin Karimloo's "'Till I Hear You Sing" aside.

Please Raoul is totally beast! But Gerard Butler makes a good phantom, I'll give you that :3

Ick no, I don't like the movie. It should be the stage version, or nothing! :)

It has a sinister, sneaky, suave sound. Like a handsome villain, a man of intrigue who charms the ladies while having their husbands blown up on a yacht.
I always thought it was a good choice for the name of James Earl Ray's mysterious co-conspirator that he talked about and nobody else seemed to know anything about, or wouldn't admit to knowing. If he made Raoul up, or or Raoul was the alias used by somebody, it was a perfect choice.
