[Opinions] Eve as a nickname
Eve and Eva are two of my favourite names but I sometimes think they're a little short to be used alone and might be better as a nickname. What are your favourite names which can have Eve or Eva as nicknames? What do you think of Genevieve "Eve"? Is it too much of a stretch? What about Guinevere "Eve"?

My sister's name is Genevieve and we call her Evie. It's not too much of a stretch as at all - the last syllable makes an 'eve' sound. I reckon Guinevere as Eve is more of a stretch, but you could still do it. Guinevere is such a lovely name. My favourite names with Eve or Eva as nicknames would be Genevieve, Guinevere (now you've mentioned it!), Evangeline, Yvette and Eveline. You could also use Evelyn, Yvonne, Evelia, Evita. There are heaps of possible names. I think Eve and Eva are great names just by themselves. They don't sound really childish, the way Evie probably would as a full name, and are such beautiful names.

Genevieve nn Eve is one of my faves. I don't care for Guinivere, I prefer it with the nn Vera.

Eve seems fine as a nickname for Genevieve, but Guinevere "Eve" is too much of a stretch.I like Geneva "Eva" or "Eve."I've encountered Evie (EE-vee) as a nickname for Evelyn. Even though Evelyn and Evie don't sound that much alike, I think it still works.

Genevieve "Eve" is not a stretch at all. Guinevere is a stretch though IMO. I know both names have the letters "eve" in them, but in Genevieve it's an entire syllable pronounced "EEV" and in Guinevere it's parts of two syllables which are "ehv" and "eer".Evana, Evanora, Evelyn, Evelina, Nynaeve, Evera, Everina, pretty much anything that starts or ends with "eve" or the "eev" sound.

I also love the names Eve and Eva, but I think they are perfectly fine as full names. Genevieve "Eve" could work, it's plausible. I don't think Guinevere "Eve" works, that seems like too much of a stretch to me. I love Evelyn, but like I said, prefer Eve and Eva.

Not all names are long. Just because Eve and Eva are short doesn't mean they have to be nicknames.I think Genevieve "Eve" works. Guinevere "Eve" doesn't any make sense to me. I also think Maeve "Eve" doesn't make any sense. Some other names that might work for Eve:Evangeline
Aviva
Geneva
Ivana
Yvette
Yvonne
Olivia (with "eev" pronunciation)
Sunniva

I think any name which has the "Eve" sound in it can work, so Genevieve isn't a stretch at all to me as the "Eve" sound is quite prominent. "Eve" for Guinevere is less intuitive but the "ee" and "v" sound are both there, albeit reversed. I wouldn't think people would have too difficult a time accepting it, though I think "Vera" would be more intuitive sound-wise.

My best friend is Eve "Evie", she's always used Evie as a nickname because it ends in a vowel and therefore carries despite the fact it is longer.
I have heard Genevieve "Eve" lots and lots of times so i don't think it is a stretch but I personally dislike it. The way I pronounce Guinevere doesn't result in Eve so that would be a stretch. If a full name is to be used I'd go with good ol' Evelyn, though I like Eve on it's own. :)

Genevieve is the first name I thought of. I think that would be great. Evelyn or Evangeline are two others I like.

I like Eve as a nickname for Evanthe.Evening nn Eve/Evie is also a guilty pleasure of mine.I like Genevieve nn Eve and I don't think it's a stretch at all.

Genevieve nn Eve is nice. I'd never thought of Guinevere as a full name for Eve before. I think it could work, after all, many other names with the 'ev' sound have Eve / Evie as nicknames. How about...Evadne "Eve"- this is my favourite one
Evelyn "Eve"- although Evelyn is getting more and more popular
Eveline / Evelina "Eve"
Evangeline / Evangelina "Eve"
Evelia "Eve"
Everild "Eve"
Evanna "Eve"
Evette "Eve"
Evita "Eve"
Evonne "Eve"
Evren "Eve"- I prefer Evren on a boy but it is a unisex name.

Evelina is really pretty and Evadne is lovely.Evelyn is one I've thought of before but I'm not sure about it because Evelyn has an "ev" sound whereas Eve has an "eev" sound, long E. Unless Evelyn could be pronounced "Eev-lin"

I've been liking Eve a lot lately but trying to determine the same thing: nickname or full name. I do know a family who named one of their daughters Eve and it's very cute on her, so I know that Eve and Eva by themselves do work. Right now Eva is getting a bit popular like Ava so I'm liking Eve much better. My favorite long names are Evangeline and Evelyn (I prefer the British pronunciation EEV-lyn) but I usually think of using Evie as a nickname with them and not Eve or Eva (they definitely work though). Evalyn, Evelina, Evadne and Evangelina are all nice as well and would work perfectly with Eve or Eva as a nickname. I also found Evette which is quite pretty (there is Evonne too). Genevieve does work with nn Eve, in fact it works really well because you can hear the Eve sound at the end. Guinevere doesn't seem to work as much because although you can see the Eve in it you can't hear it and nicknames seem to work best if you can hear part of the sound in the full name. Oh, and I was just thinking what about Niamh or Neve? Maeve too or Maeva? Those are probably too short to deserve a nickname but they came to mind.Hope this helps!

Maeve "Eve" is lovely and I hadn't thought of using it. Niamh is nice but I would use that as a name on it's own, without Eve as a nickname. It seems a bit pointless to have a nickname for such a short name.I see what you mean about Guinevere. I don't think I'd be brave enough to use Guinevere anyway!
