I'd guess it's getting more popular both because of Game of Thrones and because of people liking Aria but wanting to spell it differently. Which annoys me because if it's one thing that bugs me more than a misspelled name, it's a misspelled word name! But if they're using it because of Game of Thrones, then obviously it's spelled correctly. :)
I pronounced it AR-ya, which is how they say it in the TV show. (As opposed to AR-ee-a.) I think it's really pretty, and she's a great character. In the show anyway, I haven't read the books. I tend to not recommend naming a kid after a character with a unique name, although it's not that bad of a thing to do.
We love the show, aside from how like in other HBO shows they need to stick unnecessary naked people and people doing it in there. Ick. We're almost done with Season 2, getting it on Netflix.
