[Opinions] Mildred
What do you think of this name? It's really grown on me and I now find it quite cute.

It is too old ladyish for me.

The 'dread' sound puts me off. It is ugly and the word 'dread' isn't a good one.I love Millie/Milly though and would happily name a daughter Millicent "Millie" if that's what a SO and I could agree on.

Perfectly OK name, I like it. I would be fine being a Mildred.I like names ending in consonants,(for myself), as I have a last name all vowels.(almost all!)

I used to cheer with a girl named Mildred Josephine (Milly). I thought it was hideous then and haven't changed my mind since then. At least with Josephine, she could have had some cute nn options. BTW, Milly's mother was named Gladys so I guess the family preferred straightforward, non-frilly female names.BTW, it's not that I find Milly to be so bad. It's the 'dred' of Mildred. It also reminds me of mildew. Now as a nick for Camilla / Camille or even Millicent, it could be really cute.

It's almost the archtype of an ugly girls' name. Bertha and Ethel and Mildred all vie for that title.

Yep but ...don't forget Hortense. All hideously ugly, imo.

I know a lovely woman from South America with that name and she really hates it because she thinks it sounds like an old lady.
She named her 2 children popular girls names in the top 10. I like the name it's just it could be hard to wear that's all.

Very dowdy and dated. Marginally better than Gertrude.

I like it, but I'd never use it first and formost because my name is Millie, and I think it would be wierd. I prefer Millicent.

It makes me think of a Victorian servant girl. It is too old fashioned for me and I find it dowdy. Also, the sound is unattractive as it contains sound of the word "dread".

I adore Mildred! It's fusty and retro and stolid and brassy.

I really hate it. Only meant to be on an old maid.

Mildew Dread! Cringes at the mildew of Mildred.

I sort of want to like it, but I think it would be so hard to wear. I wouldn't want to be named Mildred. It does also remind me of The Worst Witch, which is a cute association, but not enough to save it.

I love it.I get that it makes people think of mildew and dread but really, it's not ugly and if you met a little girl named Mildred you might actually see that it's got eleven times the charm and character and quiet power of Alice or Clara. It was my grandma's name so it's been familiar to me forever - maybe that helps me like it, too. ETA I wish I could post some photos of my gma Mildred, as a doe-eyed youth and as a fashionable young woman. I'm told by my parents that she had a lot of attitude. She was called Millie, but if she hadn't had Mildred as her full name, I think Millie would have been too flimsy.
