[Opinions] one-syllable nicknames and names...
Were popular for girls once, but they died out. Lots of women now named Sue, Beth, Lynn, Anne, Jean, Jan, Dee, Jo, Liz, Pat and Pam. But now the only one-syllable name that's really popular for girls is Grace, (and that is very popular indeed.)
One-syllable nns for boys seem to be getting less use too. More young boys are just being called Michael, Daniel, Christopher, Samuel and Matthew. Jake, Nick, Ben, Sam and Chris are still popular but I'm noticing more and more parents preferring them to go by their full names.

I think you're right. In my generation you almost got sick of Sue, Beth, Jan and Pam, in particular. Yes, I have noticed that young boys more often go by a full name now. Still, you do hear Jake, Ben, etc.My generation also was clogged with these: Patty, Debbie, Cindy, Sandy, Sherry, Kathy. OT, but I'm glad that trend died out too.
