So I realised I like the name Oliver.
Unfortunately it's in the top 10 trendy names here in aus and I always swore I wouldn't use any popular names.

I'm not big on Oliver, but it's not bad. I wouldn't use it in your case. I don't like popular names myself and there are some names that I really like that I won't use because of it.

I like it a lot. It's clearly masculine without being over the top, its classic and ages really well. That's probably why it's so popular!

I think popularity alone is not a good enough reason to not use a name you truly love. That's as poor a reason as using a name you don't much like solely because it is trendy.
I'm no fan of the name Oliver. It just sounds slimy and slithery, like raw liver or something like that in your mouth.

I love it, but popularity always holds me back. I love the names Harry, Oliver, Jack, Alfie, Charlie and James but they're all way too popular... :(
You also said you "liked" it; don't you mean "love"? Just use names you love, not the ones you "like".
Use it as a middle name if you really love it, or go for a variant, diminutive or a translation: Olivier, Olaf, Ollie, Alfher, Aulay etc.

I don't love anything!
The sad reality is I am 15 weeks along with what I think is another boy and I have no idea on names for either gender! I have a list of girls that I love but my partner isn't a fan. As for boys there is nothing jumping out.
When I had my son I loved his name for years in advance and he was named from the start.

I used to dislike Oliver, but now I think it's oh-so-cute. I could see myself considering it one day.
I don't concern myself too much with popularity. I say if you truly love a name, popularity shouldn't matter. For example, I really love Sophia, which is extremely popular here. I'd still consider it despite the popularity. But for you I guess it depends whether you value the name more or the fact that it's too popular for your taste.

It's not very popular here, so it's still fresh to me. Maybe you could use Oliver as the first name and call him by his middle name?

It has taken me a long time to warm up to Oliver, but now I officially have. Still not sure I'd ever use it as a fn (it's more of a mn to me). I still don't care for how it spells out 'o liver,' but I think I'll get used to that!

I really like oliver. It usel to be My number 1, the only name I could see myself using for à son. Its not my number 1 now, but I'd still be happy to use it.
