[Opinions] Alistair
I am so relieved that DH likes this name as it's one of my favorites for boys but I have a few questions.I pronounce it AL-uh-stir, how do you pronounce it? It seems like there are quite a few ways to spell it; Alister, Alistair, Alastair, Alasdair (did I miss any?)
Which is your preferred spelling? And finally, what do you think of Alistair?

I love it but I like the spelling Alasdair best. I pronounce it more or less the same as you do.
My only reservation about this name is the nicknames - Al sounds too incomplete and Ali sounds feminine.

I pronounce it AL-e-STAIR. The last syllable just like the word "stair".My preferred spelling is Alistair. It strikes me as veddy veddy British and not too terribly masculine.

I love it, at one point I'd consider using it too. I was never sure if I prefered to spell it Alistair or Alasdair. I pronounce it the same way as you. It's such a handsome name! I like the nickname Al too.

I'm in England I used to pronounce all spellings as AH-lih-ster. Nowadays I've changed that slightly, and I pronounce Alistair and Alastair as AH-lih-stair, with the last syllable changed.
My personal favoured spelling is Alister with the same pronunciation.I used to really like it but only for the nickname Ali - which I like for both boys and girls - recently I met an Alister who is 6, he was charming enough but I remain indifferent to the name and all spellings of it.

Alistair is my favorite spelling, and I pronounce it the same way you do. It's probably in my Top 20 male names - I like it much better than the more common Alexander.

I basically change my pronunciation depending on how it's spelled, which maybe isn't correct, but whatever.Alister- AL-uh-stir
Alistair and Alastair- AL-uh-stair
Alasdair- AL-as-dare (sounds very similar to Alistair/Alastair though)I prefer the spellings Alistair, because I think it looks the nicest, and Alasdair because you can use Dair/Dare as a nickname. And I think it's a really nice name. It's masculine without being overbearing, it's quite uncommon in my area (I've never met one) and it's kind of adorably stuffy.

I quite like Alistair, have for years, but I can't use names that start with A, so it's out. I really do love it though. Alistair is my preferred spelling, although I do also like Alasdair. Alistair seems more aristocratic, and Alasdair has more a feeling of romanticism. So I guess it comes down to how it looks and feels with whatever it is paired. I say it AL-uh-stir/AL-ih-stir.

I pronounce it the same way as you and I like the spelling Alastair the best. It's not a bad name, although it's a wee bit on the pretentious side, I think. Not overly-so though. I don't really have much of an opinion on it. It's okay.

Alistair is a great name, but your pronunciation is ugly. Do you really emphasize the second syllable when you say it? I pronounce it AL-i-ster.

I love Alistair! It's a top choice for us...we like it in the mn spot :) I like the Alistair spelling, and I also like Alastor. I pronounce it AL-uh-ster. There are a few combos where I prefer it pronounced like AL-ah-stor, though. I think they both work.
