[Opinions] Wine
Someone wrote this with a capital on the Lounge board. Wine is a name?!!
I know it has a different meaning and all, but I still think it's weird.

It's odd to use nowadays, but for me it wouldn't take to long to figure out it would mean 'friend' (like most -win names). In Dutch we've got Wijnand for example. I knew a guy named this and it never really bothered me it started with Wijn. I also knew someone who named their child Chablis (= a kind of wine) and that bothered me more.
Besides, when I look at names of Dutch people I know/have known personally, Wine doesn't seem that bad anymore:Wiet
Joke
Trees
Lies
Jelle
Freek
Job
Ton
Cock
Kick
Puck
Flip (my dad :D)
Floor(worst name I've ever encountered was Daddy on a GIRL!)

And in Sweden we use:Gun
Jerk
Jerker
TeaBut Galen (mad) and Pippa (to sh*g) sound hilarious to us. ;)

A lot of those names are perfectly normal to me, my sister's called Floor for example. Wine is equally weird in my opinion. Maybe as a nickname For Winona, it could work, since most of the names you listed are nicknames as well. About the Wijnand thing - it doesn't really bother me, either. But it would be weird to meet someone called Wijn, right?
Chablis is awful, though. And Daddy? That's HORRIBLE. Even on a boy.

Yeah, from old English. You have to remember this is an etymology site and not a ~baby names~ site. We have lots of things that aren't really used as names in English speaking countries but are/were still names elsewhere. Can Edit Else Wit Dong Rut Beat
theres plenty

I know, but it's cool to find out that names we would find weird are normal sometime or someplace else.

Yeah, and there are a lot of names that are related to it:
Adalwin, Aelfwine, Alfwin, Ealdwine, Leofwine, Oswin, etc.
There are quite a few strange Anglo-Saxon names.
