Shortly after Luke was born, Aidan was suddenly killed in a work-related accident. Sephe was devastated and didn't see how she could go on. She was certain she would never fall in love again. Since she was the sole support of the family now, she went back to school in pursuit of a steady career, and there she met Jonathan.
They were lab partners. He made her laugh for the first time in months, and they quickly became good friends. She wasn't looking for anything more than that, but when he told her he loved her, she was stunned to realize she loved him too.
They were married just months after Aidan died, and many of her family and friends thought she was unwise to get married again so soon, and especially to someone so young, who couldn't possibly handle the responsibility of a ready-made family. But Jon was great with Lissie and Luke, and they were crazy about him. Indeed, when baby Georgina was born, Luke was a bit jealous of Jon's attention toward her, but Jon, who had grown up without a father himself, was careful to make plenty of time for his new stepson and stepdaughter, as well as the new baby.
