[Opinions] Love the name, not the nickname...
What are some names that you love, but don't like the nickname(s) for?
Also, do you often get called by a nickname you don't like? I don't like being called Tiff...it just irks me, I don't know.
Anyway, I like...
Elizabeth, but not Bess, Beth, Eliza, Libby, etc. The only nicknames I like are Ellie, Liz, and Liza.
Emma and Emily, but not Emmie.
Gillian, but not Jill.
Veronica, but none of the nicknames.
Victoria, but none of the nicknames.
David, but not Dave.
Edmund, but not Ed.
Jonathan, but Jon is just okay.
Peter, but not Pete.
Vincent, but not Vince or Vinny.
How about you?

"Charlotte but I hate Charlie on a girl."Do you like Lottie? I can't stand the nickname Char, and I feel like a lot of people shorten it to that too.
vote up1
I don't care for Lottie either, now that you mention it! It comes out "loddy" in my accent, and seems precious since it's not shorter than Charlotte, but only cuter. It's not as bad as Charlie with a CH sound like Charles, though. I guess I can stand Charlie if it's pronounced with a SH. I agree that Char will not do, but it is shorter, and if a Charlotte gets called that, it would be up to her to refuse it - same as a Rachel can refuse to be addressed as "Raitch" or a Diana can refuse to be addressed as "Die."

I'm often called Star, which isn't a great name, but it's one of mine so I don't really mind it. If somebody who had just met me started calling me Star I wouldn't like it, but not because of the name itself; I wouldn't like it because it was presumptuous and overly familiar.I like Vincent but really don't like Vinnie. However, in the real world very few Vincents actually go by Vinnie so that's not much of an issue, and shouldn't deter anybody from using the name. The potential for a nickname you don't like shouldn't be the deciding factor against using a name you like; my daughter is Valerie and I hate the nn Val, but we just don't ever call her Val or refer to her to others as Val. She may get called Val by her friends but it'll be up to her to decide if she likes it or not. If she does, then her friends are welcome to call her that, and I won't act like I've got a stick up my butt when I hear her called Val; I just won't call her that myself.

The only one that comes to mind is Joseph. I love Joseph, but I'm not keen on Joe or Joey. I don't dislike them, but Joseph is just better, IMO.My family and friends call me Rach sometimes, but I like it. In fact, I think I may be the only Rachael/Rachel on this board who likes it. I think it's friendly.
