It’s been two years since Rosalie was born. How are things with the family? Your family gets a cat! Must have a supernatural name.
One of the partners is laid off and out of work for six months. How does the family cope?
The Thornhill family have settled into their new lives very well. The hotel is doing well, and the couple believe their hard work will pay off in the long run. However, Linnea gets bad news - she is no longer required at the tutoring services, and she is let go. This means that the couple are entirely reliant on the hotel, while they still have debts to pay, and four young children to feed. Linnea is quick to start looking for work, but she finds very little that she can apply for, even now that she has her degree. The couple tighten their belts, cutting back on their own lives, while trying to make sure that the children don't have to go without.
It is a long and difficult six months, but Damien and Linnea tough it out together. Thankfully, the children are mostly too young to understand what is going on, and remain as happy as ever.
Six months after losing her job, Linnea is offered another. She finds work with a tutoring company, who are impressed by her ability to teach both humanities and science. The new paycheque is enough to keep the family in food and heat, and to support them until the hotel is consistently profitable. Around the same time, Søren and Laurel find a stray cat, and beg their parents to let them keep her. Damien agrees without hesitation, naming the tabby cat Cthulhu. Cthulhu and the boys are the best of friends, and wherever the boys can be found, Cthulhu is usually right beside them, pouncing at shoelaces, and sitting in laps.
