How do you feel about Martha? Personally, I find the name gives me a very strong feeling of strength and reserve. It's my great-grandmother's name, and her grandmother's name, so it's definitely honoring for me. It's also the name of one of my cousins who is actually the most beautiful woman I have ever seen (she's also very successful).

How does it read for you?

I think of Martha from The Secret Garden and I like it for that reason and that reason only. If not for that I would think it was dowdy and kind of boring.

I love it! Though I do prefer Marta. (Marta is a family name on my paternal grandmother's side.)

It reminds me of Martha Stewart but I quite like the name. I would never use it myself unless it was for a character.

I think Martha is sweet, old-fashioned, and humble. It has a quiet nature, but isn't weak. I like it.

I've always been very fond of the name Martha actually. I too get a strength vibe from this name and find the meaning quite sweet really. It's a name I would consider using in the future, probably only for a mn though, as DH is not overly keen on it.

I think it's a great name. I've always liked it, despite its old lady feel. Maybe it's because I've always associated it with Martha's Vineyard?

I think it's going to make a comeback.

I imagine Martha being sister to girls named Sally or Polly or Elizabeth "Betsy"

Now I kind of want three girls: Martha, Sally, and Betsy.

It reads "gray" to me, but also soft. Like a soft, gray sweater. I wouldn't use it.

I love the name Martha. A Martha can be quiet or spunky, artsy or athletic. The one Martha I know is a strong woman. I love the nn Marti.

I love it. It is quite old fashioned but in a cool Victorian kind of way, rather than an old lady way.

The only Martha I know is in her late 30s and very bubbly and vivacious, so I have a nice image of it. I'd love to meet a young Martha.

Martha is a still-waters-run-deep kind of name. Like Frances, Joan and Ellen, it seldom gets much attention. There's no flash with Martha. It calls to mind patience, perseverance and loyalty. And if it honors family members for you, you should absolutely use it if you want to.
