It has been five years since Abbey and Jack's last child was born. Their oldest child, Tobias, is in his final months of Year 3 and beginning to find what he loves doing; sports. After years of academic struggle Abbey and Jack are delighted that Tobias is finding a release to his endless energy in physical activity. Their first daughter, Rose, is in Year 1 and unlike her big brother, is excelling academically - at least in her English. Teachers have said that Rose has a natural talent for writing, speaking and story telling - well Abbey and Jack know the speaking bit is true! Their baby Seb is finishing Reception, nobody can believe he is so big! Reports from his school say that Seb can usually be found in the library corner or at the drawing table, he is growing up to be a conscientious, loving child.
Two years after having Sebastian, Abbey and Jack felt that they were ready to welcome another child, after all they had wanted a large family, however to their surprise they found that after a year of trying Abbey was still not pregnant. They started at their GPs, who did a few initial tests before referring the couple to a specialist. From there is was determined that the fertility issues were stemming from Abbey and not Jack, and after talking through the many options that the couple was offered it was decided that Abbey would try some drugs that would hopefully increase ovulation. Abbey and Jack hoped that this would work as they knew they wouldn't be able to afford IVF with three existing children.
To their delight after two cycles on the drugs Abbey fell pregnant. They knew before that the risk of multiples was exceedingly high, but neither were prepared for the news at the 10 week scan that Abbey was carrying triplets! As soon as possible they found as the genders - a girl and identical boys! Despite their other children having two middle names, Jack and Abbey agreed that because they were having to name treble the normal, they would only give the triplets a middle name each. At 37 weeks Abbey went in for her pre-planned C-section and came out of theatre with 3 healthy babies! Their second daughter was the largest, weighing 5lb 7oz, while the boys weighed 5lb and 5lb 2oz. Abbey and Jack didn't intentionally theme the children's names but in the end the triplets ended up with unisex first names; Addison, Phoenix and Devon. Their middle names honoured various family members, past and present. After a week the babies were allowed home and all are doing well.
Two months after Addie, Phoenix and Devon were born, Abbey and Jack come home from taking the triplets out to find their front door standing open on one hinge and their house ransacked! Immediately they call the police and wait outside - not wanting to touch anything. Abbey calls her sister who agrees to pick the older children up from school and take them back to hers while the mess is sorted out. Meanwhile the police arrive, along with Jack's auntie who helps take care of the triplets while Abbey and Jack are questioned by the police and asked to see in anything has been taken. After spending hours picking their way through their house Abbey and Jack give police a list of what has been taken:
-The majority of Abbey's jewellery, including some special family pieces.
-Two dvd players and some dvds.
-Loose cash accumulating to approximately £250.
-Two tablets, an E-Reader and two i-Pods.
Despite the children's rooms being turned over, the majority of their stuff remains in good condition however the house is a health hazard and the couple decide that they can't bring the children back with it in a state. For the rest of the afternoon and evening they work hard to clean it up with the help from family members but Abbey is too scared to spend the night there so she takes the triplets and beds down at Jack's aunties, while the older children stay with Abbey's sister and Jack sleeps on his brother's sofa. After an uncomfortable night apart the family meet to discuss what is going to happen but the thought of going back to that house terrifies Abbey. The decision is made to put the house up for sale, for a week the family lives at various relatives houses until their local counsel finds them a suitable house - a lovely, five-bed detached home closer to the children's school. Tobias and Seb remain sharing while Rose has her own room, but the bigger house means that the triplets can move out of their parents room, with the identical twins sharing and their sister having a nursery to herself.
Two weeks after moving in, the police pay them a visit to return some distinctive family pieces that turned up in pawn shops, alongside one dvd player and a tablet. The insurance pay out is good and the family manage to replace many of the items that were taken.
