[Opinions] Ania/Anya
This growing on me as an alternative to Anne, Anna, etc. WDYT? Which spelling do you prefer? The one thing that bugs me is that techninically it's a nickname.

I love Anya. I'd happily use it irl, with this spelling. The nickname thing doesn't bother me at all as most people in the UK would have no idea that it is one.

I prefer it to Anne/Anna. It has more personality. I prefer the spelling Anya- Ania looks like a different name to me. The fact that it's a nickname doesn't bother me at all, and many non namenerds wouldn't be aware of that.

Anya looks more like the pronunciation, AHN-yuh. Ania looks like it could have several different pronunciations. I know what you mean about preferring full names. My youngest is Anna and I call her Annika a lot while her dad calls her Annie equally as often. I like both nns better than the full name yet I never would put either on the bc because I still view them as nns and nns on the bc to me lack integrity. I can't shake the feeling.

I like Anya! Its fun and spunky. I don't like the look of Ania at all. I would use Anya as a full name. It feels like a full name to me. It doesn't scream nickname like Katie does.

I really like the name Anya and the fact that it's a nickname doesn't bother me at all. I don't really think of it as a nickname name and I expect most people aren't aware that it is one anyway.I prefer Anya partly because that's the spelling I'm most familiar with but also I like ys in names (as long as they're not excessive!).

This is on my list and I like it very much. I prefer the spelling Anya.
At the moment in the class where I work part time we have two little girls called Anya but they both spell it differently; one Ania and the other Anniyah. They are gorgeous little things and do the name a lot of favours. Anniyah often goes by Annie - which I think is cute - but I like Anya as a stand alone :)

I pronounce these differently. Anya is ahn-ya whereas Ania is uh-NYE-uh. So if you're going for the ahn-ya sound, my vote would be unequivocally Anya. It reminds me of Buffy but I do like it.

I like Anya a lot. I know a little Anya, for whom it's a full name. I understand the hesitation because it's a nickname, but I would totally use it as a full name too. The Anya spelling is intuitive for me. Ania makes we want to add a syllable: ah-NEE-ah or something.

I like the name, and prefer the Anya spelling.Just because I like the "y" below the line. (That's why I'm glad the Kathryn part of my name has the y.)What is it a nickname for, perhaps Anastasia?I guess it's like Jack, I have to accept that people will formally name their child Jack, rather than john, then nickname him.
