I think they are both bad. I would not want to be named Maple. Maple tree, maple syrup. Teasing potential is too high. Maybelle is just silly. Only redeeming factor is the nickname Belle which I would go by exclusively if Maybelle was my name.

Too many syrup jokes, I fear...

Two of my favorites. I am constantly going back and forth on which I like better because they sound so similar but give me such different vibes. Maple seems so comfy and just a bit hippy, while Maybelle is frilly and girly and less "out there". Today I think it's Maple, but it just might be because of the season.

Too weird for a person in my opinion, but that's just me, I'm a tame namer. I would be delighted to meet a child called Maple though. I feel like she would get called Maple syrup a lot, though that's not the worst association a person could have.

As for Maybelle, its cutesy. Much more usable than Maple. It sounds a bit Southern hillbilly to me, but I imagine Maybelle to be a lovely person nonetheless. Too cutesy to use myself, but fine for someone else. I'm not sure it ages well either. That could also be said for Maple.

Less silly than Maybelle, IMO. Maybelle is like a tacky polka-dot dress while Maple is a more sensible gingham dress. That's the best way I can describe the difference, believe it or not.

I only know of a boy with this name--Maple John.

I love the name Maple. Less silly than Maybelle, but I don't find Maybelle silly either. I think it's pretty.

I'm not really sure why "maple syrup" is considered an insult. It's not like Maple rhymes with diarrhea or prostitute. Maple reminds me of my favourite team, and for Canadians, it would be a cool patriotic choice.

Sillier than Maybelle, and I didn't think that was possible. I like Mabel, but think that Maple sounds atrocious. I guess one little consonant sound can make a big difference.

Actually, I don't think its terrible because it does run in the same line as Aspen and Cedar, but I do find it masculine sounding.

Maybelle and Maple are different styles of names, so I'm not sure I can compare them. I do think Maple is quite sweet and unusual, but in a good way. I love trees, so Maple appeals to me for that very reason.

It's cute. It's off the beaten path but nature names are a familiar concept. I would probably get used to it if I knew a Maple.

FYI Actor Jason Bateman has a daughter Maple Sylvie. I would avoid an S middle name personally as Maple S. Bateman is like handing people a maple syrup joke. :-P

I think Maple is adorable and decidedly less silly than Maybelle (which I also like).
