I think it's a very nice way to honour your mother. I'd prefer Sander in this case, but both would be a good idea I think :D

For honouring there's also Sandor, Lysander and Cassander, in case Cam isn't too keen on Xander.

Although, Cassandra / Cassander would be a great way to tie your name and your mother's, but definitely as a MN then.
