[Opinions] Blaise
I'm starting to come around to this name...for a boy. Though I consider it unisex. What are you thoughts? Too many stoner jokes? :-PSorta like Blaise Benjamin and Benjamin Blaise.

Reminds me of a long haired shirtless man on the front of a sleazy romantic novel, especially if you use the spelling Blaize or Blaze. Blech.

not a fanit sounds a little kitschy (Blaze) and looks a bit weak to me. plus, I could see him getting Blaze written, or joked about, and/or people saying it either Blaze OR Blays and that being annoying. not that it's a name that would really be made fun of a lot, but i just don't think it's a great name. Better than Blaine, though.

I like it, but I can only see it on a girl. I know a girl named Blaise and she has one of those overwhelming personalities that has taken over that name for me. The name lends itself to being joked about though, especially if the person smokes weed.

I used to dislike Blaise, but I've come to reconsider and I actually like it now. For a boy only though, I wouldn't like it one bit on a girl.

Alaric Blaise
Balthasar Blaise (maybe more of a GP, but it sounds awesome)

I was raised Catholic, so St. Blaise and annual throat blessings are what come to mind. Since I adore almost any obscure medieval saint name (for the pure history of it) Blaise has always been a winner for me. Without that association, I can see why so many are spelling it Blaze (shudder) -- they only have the noun as a reference. Why on Earth would someone name their child after fire like that, I wondered. Then it occurred to me that perhaps it's the blaze on a horses nose that they are thinking of. Or blazing a trail. Or, fire. Ignatius started like that. Anyway, that's a long winded way of saying I love Blaise, but only this spelling for me. Old habits die hard. I generally prefer a few centuries to let a name *cure* before I consider it usable -- on a boy only in this case. Blaise Benjamin / Benjamin Blaise is pretty neat. I'm beginning to like alliterative combos more and more. :-D

My newest little nephew is name Jonah Blaze. My brother-in-law likes nature and woodsy stuff and wanted Blaze for the trail-blazing association.
Shrug. I don't know. I wouldn't choose that spelling, but I can see the allure of that association.

And you can let him know that it has a double nature origin. Blazing trails comes from early U.S. pioneers placing white paint on trees to mark the trail. The marks looked like the white blazes on horses' noses. Thus they were "blazing the trail." :-)

Sweet. As a pre-parenting-life tree-planter, he'll love that!
