[Opinions] Rebecca
Rebecca has been stuck in my head lately. I was mulling over some family history files, and my earliest known female relative was named Rebecca. It's never come to mind before, but now I'm really starting to love the name. What are your thoughts? I'm a little concerned it might sound dated (and this is a name I'd actually consider for a child). But it's Biblical, so I'm not sure whether "dated" applies as much. Any ideas for middle names?* Also, which nickname(s) do you like best for Rebecca? Thanks in advance!

I love Rebecca and it was the first name I had picked out for a girl, but I decided against it and the major reason that I did was because of its then great popularity. And yes, it's dated. An old name, a classic name, a Biblical name can still be dated if it has at one point become very fashionable and a later point fallen out of fashion.

I think Rebecca is beautiful. It's not dated to me. It's a classic, but seems like it's in the same vein as Laura or Sarah and less in the camp of Sophia or Isabelle or of Louise or Mary. I remember from childhood talking to a woman about names (I was really young and was already obsessed) and she said her daughter was named Rebecca Susan and I thought it was so pretty. I still think it's so pretty. So:
Rebecca Susan
Rebecca Frances
Rebecca Laurel
Rebecca MargotI don't really like any of the nicknames. I definitely prefer Rebecca in full. (Becca beats Becky, though, and they both beat Reba)

I don't feel Rebecca is dated; it's too classic for that. I know a lovely young lady by the name and the sound is pleasant. The one glitch I have with it is that the meaning is a bummer for me. Becca is the nickname I enjoy. Ideas...Rebecca Liv
Rebecca Tamsin
Rebecca Laure "LOR"
Rebecca Thilde "TEELD"
Rebecca Hilary
Rebecca Fleur
Rebecca Dove

Rebecca was my maternal grandmother's name. So, if you'd like a real-life combo, her full name was Rebecca Ellen.

I think Rebecca is more classic than dated. It's true you don't meet many children named Rebecca anymore, but no one would turn their head at one.I don't like any nicknames for Rebecca, but if I had to choose one I'd pick Becca.

Rebecca may not be as popular as it has been, but it isn't dated. It's pretty much timeless. More so than the Biblical Hannah, which went through a long period of disuse before suddenly becoming very popular.
I think Rebecca's a very pretty name. I don't like the nns Becky or Becca, they seem very babyish, and Reba is laughably hillbilly. I've known plenty of Rebeccas, and quite a few went by just Rebecca with no nn.

Funny difference I've noticed- in Australia, nearly every Rebecca I know goes by Bec or Becks, but in the US Becca and Becky are used (which I've never heard used here).I have two close friends in the US who are Becca and Becka respectively, and then I have about 6 or 7 relatively close friends named Bec in Australia but I have never met a single Becca or Becky. Your nickname opinions just reminded me of that.

I don't think Rebecca is "dated" at all! It's fairly classic, but not so common that it's boring - in fact it's one of my favorite names. I prefer Becca to any other nickname. Some combo suggestions (the more French, the better):Rebecca Clarisse
Rebecca Constance
Rebecca Françoise
Rebecca Maeve
Rebecca Marguerite
Rebecca Marjorie
Rebecca Naomi
Rebecca Rosamond
Rebecca Vera (vair-uh)
Rebecca Vivienne

I like the name Rebecca. I think it's pretty and versatile. Two of my close friends are named Rebecca, but called Becca and Becky. I particularly like the nickname Rivka, though it's not as easy to get to. I absolutely loathe Reba, and Becca and Becky are just okay. We also call Becky "Becks" which I like a lot.Rebecca Adrienne
Rebecca Lauren
Rebecca Julianne
Rebecca Corrine
Rebecca Giselle
Rebecca Persis
Rebecca Erin
Rebecca Ruth
Rebecca Sydney
Rebecca Claire
