When I saw this, I pronounced it as "teer-ee-el" and thought it felt styled after a Tolkien character, specifically a female character. For a male name, I'm wondering if maybe it's pronounced more like "TIE-ree-el" or something. Don't know what to make of it.

Have never seen or heard of Tariel either, but it makes me think of Tauriel, a new female character created for the three-part "Hobbit" film. Apparently, she appears in the second installment and is based on the assumption that, while Tolkien didn't specifically detail them in the particular stories he told, there must have been strong female elf warriors in the world Tolkien created. Don't know much about it but it seems to have caused a lot of controversy.
