[Opinions] how would you pronounce Mireil
I was just curious to see how other people would pronounce this. I love the name and live in the U.S. so I'm not sure if I should use it or not. Thanks! Also, what do you think of the spelling Mirei instead?

I think, Mir-ay?

I've never seen the spelling you are using; Mireille would be meeRAY. Are you trying to create a masculine form? And would Mirei (which looks unconvincing) be male or felame?

I'd say "mee-ray." (I'm in Maine).

Mi-Ray. And I prefer it being spelled Mireille.

Well my first instinct was "mi-RAYL", but I guess the alternate spelling you suggested proves that the L is silent. I guess it looks kind of French... is it French? (I should just look it up lol.) Anyway, I don't know which spelling. Mireil seems more elegant, Mirei is maybe easier to pronounce but more "cute" looking. That's not a bad thing, but cute vs. elegant is definitely a pretty big difference. ETA: I read some of the other comments, and Mireille is even more confusing! I know that "eil" would sound like "ay" in French, but I thought that "lle" would always make an L sound!

I know this name with the spelling Mireille. I pronounce it (more or less) mee-RAY. I'd pronounce Mireil the same.

I'd pronounce it meer-ALE. If you're looking to pronounce it more like meer-AY, I'd go with the second spelling.

I would be torn on if I should pronounce is like Mireille or if it was supposed to be mee-ree-uhl (Like Muriel, but with an I where the U goes), because I wouldn't assume that someone living in the US would pronounce it right to start with and because I haven't seen that spelling before. But I think the majority of the people would have more difficulty on first sight and maybe take some time to learn the proper spelling as it's not intuitive in English. Mirei just isn't the same name to me, and I think you'd end up with a lot of people saying Miri, and being even more dense about fixing their pronunciation.

ditto to all of what Gracie just said. Try Mireia? (see inside)If you like MIR-ay, but not the spelling (which can be confusing to non-French speakers), you could use Mireia or Mireya. Those look a bit easier to pronounce in English, but are very close without being confused with Muriel.

mee-RHIE / mee-RHAYBut Mireille would make more sense to me than Mireil.

On first glance, I would mispronounce it as mir-ee-IHL. In my part of the US, I think you'd get a lot of mispronunciations, but once people learned the pronunciation you used they would adapt.

meer-AY, but I prefer it spelled Mireille.

Mi-RAY. I think people would say mi-RAIL though. Mirei looks a bit strange with the I on the end, how about Mirae?

Yes, that's the pronounciation I was aiming for, though I spelled it differently.

I would pronounce it like Mireille. I do see how some some people that are ignorant of language would pronounce it as Merrell. Unless thats what you're going for.
