I had an uncle Edgar, however, he was, mysteriously to me, always called T.T. There must have been a reason for it, but it's been lost in time, by now.

He was, if not the Black Sheep of the family, at least the grey one, being something of a drinker. However, also something of a hero;when his work-place suffered a dreadful accident, he carried a work-mate to safety, in spite of having a badly -broken leg, himself.

Btw, his friends called him Ed, the T.T. was just in the family.

On its own merits, the sound of Edgar doesn't do anything for me but Edgar Benjamin Samuel is a very nice combo.

I also like Ivor but I don't get the same feel from the two names, probably because my strongest (and first) association with Edgar is the "villain" from "The Aristocats".

I had a great-uncle by marriage with this name. When my sisters and I were young, we used to say "Uncle Egger" rather than "Uncle Edgar". So yeah, eggs. We also called his wife, Muriel, "Aunt Meereal" rather than "Aunt Myuriel". So eggs and cereal.

I do quite like the name and actually found it used in my maternal grandmother's family tree. That combo was Henry Edgar and I loved it as soon as I saw it. I do prefer it as a mn personally. Edgar Benjamin Samuel is very handsome though.

Eek. Don't like it at all! Reminds me of a little old man with no teeth...eating eggs...odd how the whole egg thing keeps coming up...sorry, I really do think it is a terrible name though!

I like Edgar, it's a nice, classic name. I like Edwin too, but Edgar somehow seems a bit more sophisticated.

Edgar has grown on me over the years but I prefer Edgard. Probably because it sounds a little less mortician and a litte more Viking. Although, if we are comparing Ed- names I like Edmund best.

I love Edgar and Edwin! Edgar Benjamin Samuel is a fine combination.

It sounds nice to say, but the spelling makes my "mind's voice" shout Ed-GAR! That stops me from liking the name too much, because I have to remind myself of the real sound. But, it's a strong name, and the combo is great.

I'm on the fence about Ed- names in general. I can respect them, but there just isn't one among them that I really like.

Edgar is neat, though. A little offbeat but not too far outside the box. Conrad feels similar to me.

Edgar doesn't appeal to me - I think I just don't like the way it feels to say/hear the d and g next to each other. I like Edwin a lot, and Edward is a good name, but Edgar clunks IMHO.

I like it, but it makes me think of eggs.
