My sister's name is Geneva Grace "Gigi" - she has always gone by "Geneva" & "Gigi" equally. We have had almost all positive responses to her name, and we love it, so I definitely think it works with another G name!

Thanks for the input as well as the positivity :) I thought Gigi could be a cute nickname for any name starting with a G... but I guess others disagree lol

Sure, why not?

I hate Gigi, it sounds like a spoilt poodle. Aside from that, it doesn't really make sense as a nickname for Grace anyway. Grace is very short, it doesn't really need a nickname.

I can't see purposefully setting out to name a child Grace and using the nickname Gigi. I can, however, see the nickname developing naturally. I mean, I know a Whitney called Wendy and a Kelsey called Lucy their parents didn't set out to be call them those things, they just started as childhood nicknames and stuck.

Um...I don't get it.Grace is such a pretty, simple name, and I have nothing against Gigi (I actually kind of like it), but Grace NN Gigi? Why? Gigi would make more sense if the full name were Georgia or Georgina, or something like that. I'm not getting it with Grace.

I dunno... maybe as a embarrassing family pet name. Or if Grace's initials were G.G. It's just so OTT babyish, like calling a Catherine "Chi-Chi". .....Wait, hard g like Great? Like...Giggy? No, that's pretty awful, I'm sorry.

Sorry, I meant a soft G like Georgia. I got mixed up.

i much prefer Gracie or even Gray as a nickname but Grace is beautiful on its own

You're right, Grace is beautiful. Gracie is cute... I guess I was looking for an alternative. Gray seems gloomy to me while Grace and Gracie are so sunny.

I think if the nn Gigi is desired, it should come from a name with 2 g's. Grace nn Gigi is a stretch and the images for the two names are so opposite that it's making me squint an eye unattractively.

Just curious, what are the images you have for Grace and Gigi?

Grace is a name I would like except for the imagery I get from it. It has a nice sound, the meaning is okay, and it ages well. But my imagery for it is just... ugh. It's all fake smiles, money over humanity, princess ballerina, a weird murky brown under everything like mud that just refuses to be cleaned, and an itchy collar on a shapeless dress.Gigi is short, spiky black hair. Rock 'n' Roll attitude. I think because Gigi seems like it should be princessy to me, my visual of it is the complete opposite. She's Gia's less cool cousin. She tries hard and succeeds, but will always be outshined. Tall, willowy, and very pale. Colorful nails. Breaking away from her parent's traditionalist views. Kind of half-assed rebellion. Like, she has the potential to be as kickass as Gia is, but just lacks the follow-through.

That's weird, since I get a very different picture from Grace. Grace is refined, elegant, but not princess, and it's more of low gold.

I have no idea where I get the imagery from. I've never met a Grace so it isn't association. I would like it, normally, but it's that image that keeps me from it.

Wow that's some specific imagery lol Thank you for that =)

Yeah, nearly every name I ever hear or see gives me very in depth imagery very quickly. I could make paragraphs and stories about what I see and feel with names. That's what makes naming characters so hard--the name has to really *fit* the personality but it's so hard! lolAnd, you're welcome. It's fun to get out all the imagery. I have to stop myself from writing eighteen paragraphs every time there's a wdyt thread! :)

No I love the imagery! I love to know how other people view names I like. It's interesting how two people can hear or see the exact same name and have very different opinions.

I always see Grace as a sweet cute little girl with a bob haircut, freckled nose and wearing black patent leather mary janes who grows into a stylish, elegant leader.Gigi always makes me think of a spoiled American princess who grows up to be the loud mouth, big haired, tight cheetah print pants wearing mother of 5 kids with multiple ex husbands.
