I like James. Jamie has become very feminine to me. I have known a dozen female Jamies, but only one male.

I think it's fine. I went to school with a Jamie (at a time when that name was definitely more popular for girls) and it worked. "Jamie" is cute anyway, and I think it sounds less dated on a boy than on a girl. I could easily see a male Jamie as being young (like 8 years old maybe), but a female Jamie I'd assume was at least 20.

I knew of a Jamie that was my age and it was a girl.
Not sure if Jamie for girl is popular anymore, but I am sure it will be alright to nn James , Jamie, After all It is a nn , and you can change a nn.

James is lovely and Jamie is a nice nickname. I like it and it's definitely useable and not old fashioned or dated at all.

I love Jamie on a boy. It feels about as dated as Jason and Brandon but I like both of those names too and think they're perfectly respectable. Besides, James is classic (not dated) and works just fine in modern times. An acquaintance of mine has a toddler named James.

I never liked Jamie for a boy, and think it's ridiculous on a grown man. It's whiny and cutesy, like Timmy. (I don't feel the same about Jimmy, but I do feel the same about Tommy, to a somewhat lesser degree.)

No, it isn't. Don't do it. I had a husband who went by Jamie until he reached adolescence, when he changed his nickname, and there was a reason for that, so I know what I'm talking about.

I also have a nephew named Jaime, but pronounced like Jamie, but he has never really entered the adult world due to psychiatric problems, so the fact that he as never felt driven to change his name doesn't really mean anything.

Of course. I think it's perfectly normal. I know a newborn one, a 2 year old one, went to school with a few... if anything it's the most common James nickname nowadays, I certainly hear it more than Jim.

Absolutely, I know several boys named James called Jamie.

Is it realistic to name a boy Jamie? Absolutely. There are quite a few males named Jamie. However, I would use the formal name James and then use Jamie as a nickname.
