[Opinions] Williams
So, how bad would it be to use Williams as a fn? Does it help if it's my grandmother's maiden name?
Without the s, would William seem out of place with Caemlyn, Huckleberry, and Gilead? -------------------

Williams is not bad. It certainly fits with Caemlyn, Huckleberry, and Gilead much better than William. How about Willem?

If you use Williams as a first name, you should be prepared for what happens to poor Johns Hopkins all the time. People are always saying they're going to "John Hopkins" to have this or that operation, to the point where you sound like you're the one who's wrong if you say "Johns Hopkins."

Skip the S. I think William is honoring anyway. But yeah, it would seem a little out of place but it's not a big deal.

Personally... I'd be like, why not just call him William? To me it does not sound wrong with Caemlyn, Huckleberry and Gilead. It's obviously more usual than them, but... Williams is very usual as well, in that it's heard all the time.

If someone introduced themselves as Williams to me, I'd actually assume it was his last name and that he must be famous and I ought to know who he was!
Or it'd me think of a quote from The Lies of Locke Lamora: "Your parents must have been misers to give you nothing but a surname."If you wanted something a bit less normal, there's versions like Illiam, Willum, Gwillym... heaps of languages have variations of William.
