Help[Facts] Zeta - used in Greece? And in Hebrew?
Hi there!
Well, I'm pretty sure that the letter zeta is indeed used in Greece ;)
However, I'm wondering about the girls' name Zeta.
I have read somewhere that Zeta is allegedly used as a short form of Elizabeth in modern Greek. Considering that Elisavet is listed as the Greek form of Elizabeth on this site here, I think I can see how Zeta could be used as a short form. A (admittedly superficial) Google search did indeed turn up a few women named Zeta with a Greek last name.
On the other hand, it also led me to some less than reliable looking sites that claimed that Zeta is a Greek name meaning "born last". None of those sites gave any etymology whatsoever, though, which makes me rather doubtful on their reliability to be honest.
Other sites claim that Zeta is also a Hebrew name meaning "olive". But again, no etymology or anything to back up this claim.
So I think what I'm asking is - is there any truth to any of these claims, or are they just figments of some baby name websites' imagination?
