[Opinions] WDYTO Marcella
I've recently fallen in love with the name Marcella. I love that it sounds strong yet feminine at the same time and I love that you can use the nickname Ella with it. What do you think of this name?---------------------------------------------PNL: http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/126941

Marcella is pretty enough. I wouldn't use it- I'd be more inclined to go with something like Marceline. Actually, I'd rather use Marcy or Marcie as a full name. I love retro names, and if necessary that would be the nickname I'd choose for Marcella, rather than Ella. Ella and variants are so common right now that I don't even blink.

I have always liked it. That and Marceline have always appealed to me.. I also like the idea of having March as a nick name- that may be why.Eh- especially since you like Ella I say kudos to Marcella!

I like it a lot, as well as Marcelle. I've loved Marcelle for a long time, since I read The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett when I was younger. I love it with the nn Marcie especially, but Ella is also very nice.

I think Marcella is very pretty. I doubt I'd ever use it or consider using it, but it's quite attractive.
Ella does nothing at all for me, as a full name or a nn. In fact, I find it even more obnoxious when it's used as a nn for some other name. It's like the pretty and dignified and uncommon Marcella is dumbed down by being knocked down to the ubiquitous Ella.

I was thinking about it, too, but I can't stand the NN Ella. Just not one of my favorites.Anyway, I really like it. I think it's soft, but straight-forward.

It's on my longer list of favorites. It's a good name... one of the less frilly seeming ella names. Kinda ageless, too IMO. Calling her Ella doesn't really appeal to me since that cuts out all the good part - I think Marcy is as ready for renewal as Betsy is, while Ella seems kind of incomplete and easy to forget for me. But it's ok.Tangent to this topic...I've discovered that, counter to my intuition from reading the names just as names, the name Annabel / Annabelle sounds more frivolous to me on a real person than the name Arabella does.

It's not one I love, but I can certainly appreciate it. It is indeed strong and feminine at the same time. Marcy is kind of a cute nickname too. I think I'd prefer it to Ella, as Ella is so so common as a full name and a nickname.

While I dislike the nickname Ella, I love Marcella and agree with your assessment of it wholeheartedly.
