WDYT of Kerry for a little girl?
I've got an aunt named Kerry who I adore, and would like to honor in the future. It's not really the style of most names I like (my PNL is very traditional). But it's been in my head a lot lately.
Do you think the name's still usable? Too dated? I kind of like that it's fallen off the charts in the US.
Any ideas for middle names?

It's okay, nothing special. I do think Carrie looks better and that's also the spelling most people will automatically assume on hearing the name. But if you want to name after your aunt, Kerry would be spelling to use. It sounds exactly like Carrie which is very traditional if you're worried about that.

I don't pronounce them the same either. I have an American Eastern accent.

Out of curiosity, how do you pronounce them? I'm from the Eastern US and I'd say them both the same.

I'm from the Northeastern US and I say them the same. But my sister who is from the same place (naturally) does not say Carrie the same way that I do. I know this because at one point my niece had a friend named Carrie and my sister was also friends with Carrie's mother and so my sister mentioned Carrie quite a few times. I say both Carrie and Kerry so that the first syllable sounds just like the word "care", but my sister said Carrie so that the vowel sound in the first syllable was like the one in the word "cat". Pretty much so that Carrie sounded just like the word "carry." Maybe some people pronounce Carrie like "carry" and Kerry like "care-ee" or vice versa.

I don't really love Kerry as a fn for a little girl, but I think it's ok, especially since its honoring. I like the idea of honoring your aunt, but the spelling reminds me of a surname (John Kerry).
Using it as a middle name is a nice idea, or maybe you could use a first name that Kerry could be a nickname for. The only one that comes to mind is a "made up name" Keribeth. I've heard of Meribeth before, so I suppose Keribeth might not be too much of a strength, although I don't know if it fits with your other names or not.
As RoxStar mentioned too, I think using Carrie would be a nice way to honor your aunt - even if the spelling isn't the same, it's the same name, and as long as she knew you were using Carrie/Caroline to honor her, I think it would be nice.

I know two Kerry's in their early 20s (although one is actually a Kerry-Ann). It does feel a little dated but that does not make it unusable.

I don't like it because it seems insubstantial to me, but it's not particularly dated because it was never that popular, and certainly usable. Personally if I wanted to honor a Kerry I'd use it as a middle name.

My cousin's nine year old is Kerry. It's not my style (but I think the only cousin's kid's name that I really love is Malia Madison). But the main thing is what you and your SO think about it. Do you love it enough to still use it, even if people will think it's dated? The only time I think a name is completely unusable is if it has a bad association (Adolf/ Adolph) or sounds too much like a word that you wouldn't want your child to have as a nn (Dorcas, nn Dork).

That spelling seems kind of masculine to me. Maybe you can go for Carrie? Perhaps if you want to honor your aunt you can go for the same initials.

Actually there is an actress called Kerry Washington. She played in a show since 3/4 years. She is very nice !
