[Opinions] Sky
So I've read like, four books this year in which the male main character was named or called Sky (to be fair, three of those books were part of a series) and it's kind of growing on me. So, Sky for a boy. Yes, no? Prefer for girl? Prefer Skye? Prefer as nickname for Skyler or Skylar?

It's nms, but it's not awful. Prefer it spelt like that and on a boy.

Yes! I've liked Sky for a boy for years. It's a GP but it's most definitely usable. I don't see Sky as a particularly feminine name. Skye is, but not Sky. I prefer it on its own. No Skyler or Skylar for me.

Negative comments sustain me. Sky has moved from my considering list to my main one. Skyler has also been on it for awhile.

Sky for a boy - preferably not
Sky for a girl - definitely not
Sky over Skye - if you're going to go cheesy just commit already
I think I like Skylar even less than Sky.

I find it pretentious and silly. To my knowledge, it hardly if ever happens where I live, so I'm not habituated. Skye to me suggests the island, not a female sky! And I heartily laugh at Skyler and Skylar, though Schuyler might be passable in countries where people don't make it sound like Skyler. What have you been reading - scifi, fantasy, gritty modern? The only fictional Sky I've ever encountered was the male lead in Guys and Dolls, taken from a Damon Runyon story; in his case it was a nn based on his extravagant gambling habit, and made total sense.

I've been reading modern-day realistic fiction. These:
http://www.goodreads.com/series/85919-gives-light (the main character is named Skylar, but he is called Sky most of the time)
and
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18140047-love-letters-to-the-dead?ac=1 (eta: turns out, his real name is Skylar too. yes both are this spelling).

Sky for a boy but I could see it as unisex. I don't quite care for the "e" on Skye. If a boy, nickname for Skylar but a girl Sky, nickname to Skyler.

Yes.
Sky for a boy is nice (not Skye though). I kinda like Skylar nn Sky, too.

I see Sky as a unisex name. I see Skye and Skyla as female names. I see Skylar/Skyler/Schuyler as male names. But, seeing as all of them are being used on both genders fairly frequently lately I don't think it really matters what I think. I think it will become like Jaime, male and female.

I kind of like Sky for a boy. Not one of my favourites, but it's alright. Hate it on a girl though, far too masculine for any girl. And I don't like Skyler or Skylar.

I like Skye as a nn for Skyler for a boy. I do think it's trendy, though... so it is not a name I would personally choose. I do think it has a more masculine than feminine feel, but I have known a Schuyler so that is likely why.

Me, I prefer Sky on a girl and with an e.Skye.I know some people have said "why the e?" but it makes me think of the Isle of Skye, and so I like it. I like it better than Sky as in the blue sky up there, even though the sound is the same.Skylar/Skyler I also like, though again I know lots of people don't... it could work either on a boy or girl for me. If I was shortening Skylar though, I'd just use Sky without the E.Complicated, nai? :p

Sky > Skylar > Skye > SkylerAll female. Schuyler is male.I like Sky okay but it's becoming too hokey and everywhere. Skye looks cheap. Why the e?

I don't like SchuylerI don't really like names with non-intuitive pronunciations. Even knowing that Schuyler is pronounced like Skyler, I want to say, like, shoe-ler. No thank you.Just a general response though, you're not the only one who has mentioned Schuyler.

I'm pretty iffy on Schuyler. It's fairly ugly looking.

I like Sky for a boy (due to a TV series), but I would use it as a nickname for Schuyler (Strangely loving this, even though many would botch it).Skye for a girl. No "origin" name. :)

I love the name Sky, but only for a girl. It's been a name I have loved for years.

Sky for a boy short for Schuyler, is alright.
Or if you must, for Skyler, but that's less okay.
Sky for Skylar on a boy, I don't like.
Just plain Sky for a boy seems inane. But because of the name Schuyler's existence, it's alright.Skye for a girl, I really like.
Just Sky for a girl, eh ... ok. A girl makes it seem less inane and more naturey.
Sky for Skylar on a girl, ok - I sort of like Skylar for a girl.
Sky for Skyler on a girl, I like much less.
Sky for Schuyler on a girl, nauseating.

To me it's strictly a girls' name. Sky on a boy seems very fantasy-novel. I know of one boy Skyler and have a girl cousin named Layla Sky.
I prefer the spelling Sky, and prefer it as a middle name. Obviously not with a wordy first name so no Amber Sky or Dawn Sky.

I've worked with both a male Sky and a female Skye. We called the female Skye "Lady Skye" to distinguish her from the male Sky, until the male Sky quit. In neither case was it their real name. Male Sky's real name was Gerard and female Skye's real name is Celeste.I could never figure out why neither one of them used their real names. I find Sky or Skye silly. So no, I don't care for Sky on a boy or a girl. If it has to be used, I prefer Sky without the E for a boy, and with the E for a girl, as the E makes it look more feminine to me. Perhaps only because of the spelling difference between the male Sky and the female Skye I've known.

I like Sky, Skye and Skyler on a boy as GPs, don't like them much on girls. If I had to use any of them in real life I'd probably use them as middle names - I used to like the combo Alexander Skye.
