Jude is one of my least favourite names of all time. Partly because I find the sound really unattractive - Rude
Jude, lewd
Jude,
Jude the prude, crude
Jude,
Jude pooed.
But mainly because
Jude is the
German word for Jew. Even though it is pronounced differently (in
German J=Y, and the e isn't silent) I've been to Auschwitz and Sachsenhausen. The word
Jude was everywhere, and as a result is forever tied in my mind with the horrific things that happened there. Things that I couldn't even imagine happened until I was there where they actually did. I still have nightmares about what I saw and learnt. I can't separate the word
Jude from that.
So I really can't stand
Jude. Which is funny, because I love
Judah. But I'd never use it, because of the chance it would be shortened to
Jude.
