I have such respect for Agnes. It is a classic name. However, I don't think I could use on a flesh and blood child. My husband is disappointed by this; he likes the name.

There's something particularly charming to me about Agnes Ivy and something pleasantly intense about Agnes Elowen. Agnes Clementine is so classic and heavy on Church history references, so it screams to my inner nerd. She answers.

The name grew on me after seeing Agnes Towler in The Paradise. She's definitely not dowdy which is sort of how I saw the name previously. But, I was always on the fence about it not against it so it just pushed me over the fence versus giving me a 180.

I do not like Agnes. But I do like some of the combos:
Agnes Lavinia (embrace those family names!)

I feel like any girl with this name is going to be called Aggie, though.

My mom has a sister named Agnes. Also, my mom has two brothers who both married women named Agnes. So I grew up with three aunts named Agnes. Then I married my husband and got an in-law Aunt Agnes. What are the odds?

So to me, Agnes is for women in their 60s. I've never really thought of it any other way. If I try to imagine it on a baby or little girl, I think Ness or Nessie or Essie would be adorable nicknames.

Well....I'm basically with you. I think it's ugly yet it has some charm. I suppose I'm a little biased towards it because it was my paternal grandmother's name. I remember when, before I'd had my second child, I was discussing possible names for a future second child with my mother-in-law, and was discussing possible honoring names for a second girl. She asked me what my grandmothers' names were. When I said "Agnes", there was a strong negative reaction, a face and an "Oooh, nooo!" And this would only have been a possible middle name. So even though Agnes was not and is not a big favorite, I felt rather impatient with the automatic knee-jerk negative reaction that so many people have towards it, the way that they can only focus on the sounds and not think of its history and see some of its charm.

Well, firstly I wouldn't ever consider Agnès to be an 'ugly' name!
Especially the French way, which is the only way I ever pronounce it, seeings as I'm half French.
In France it is pronounced Ahn-ye-z.
I'm not yet thirteen so I'm not thinking about kids lol but I've sort of picked out Agnés Jeanne as the name for one of my daughters. I'm not too sure about some of your combinations, but then again I can't imagine Agnès with a hard G sound!

PS I know that this is kinda stupid seeings as I've just posted it online but people who see this post, I REALLY hope this doesn't make Agnès really popular because I still want it to be a special name in ten years when I'm ready to have kids!!!! LOL!

I admit I wasn't the biggest fan of Agnes, but since meeting the most adorable little girl with the name, it has really grown on me. My real life little Agnes is about five years old, with massive blue eyes and long, thick, curly blonde hair, she is very shy but so cute; her big sister is Isobel.
