[Opinions] Hebrew girls' names
Lately, I've been really loving Hebrew girls' names. What do you think of...Aviva
Ayelet
Chaya
Gili
Keren
Keshet
Margalit
Michal
Rivka
TziporahAny combos come to mind? Are there any that you have trouble pronouncing or that you think would definitely not work in an English-speaking country? Also, since I'm here, these are the names of the Israelis I traveled with a few months ago:
Female: Tal, Gal, Ron
Male: Almog, Tomer, Ido, Shabtai "Shai", Yoav

I'm a big fan of Hebrew namesAviva nice, a bit boring
Ayelet have a negative personal association with this
Chaya feels Orthodox-y
Gili ok, a bit nicknamey
Keren nice
Keshet nice meaning, ugly sound
Margalit nice
Michal nice, v. common in Israel in the 30s-ish crowd
Rivka nice, a bit orthodox-y
Tziporah ditto

I love Aviva, Chaya, and Michal. My least favorites are Gili (reminds me of gills), Ayelet (sounds like "I yell it" and looks like eyelet), and Keren (looks like you got tryndee with Karen).I don't think Ayelet (pronunciation issues and looks like the word eyelet), Chaya (you'd never get the "ch" sound), Keren (constantly mistaken for Karen), Michal (constantly mistaken for Michael and mispronounced), or Tziporah (the "tz" will trip people up) would work in an English-speaking context at all. Some combos:
Aviva Michal (love this!)
Chaya Margalit
Aviva Keshet
Rivka Ayelet
Tziporah Keren

Aviva is a favourite of mine, that I should really give some more attention one of these days. I love the Vs and the spunk and the palindrome. Ayelet - how do you pronounce it?Chaya - Looks nice. HA-ya? Gili - great meaning. GILL-ee or JILL-ee?Keren - Meh, just looks like Karen is going for a makeover.Keshet - Sorry I sound like a broken record, but...pronunciation please.Margalit - not bad, but not my style Michal - to me, this just can't be a girl's name, even if it isRivka - Okay. Sounds more eastern european than hebrew to meTziporah - enjoy the lilt of this very muchI don't know yet if I have trouble pronuncing some, but I certainly have trouble figuring out how to pronunce some - or should I say most.Tziporah Beth
Tziporah June
Tziporah Lise
Tziporah Renee
Tziporah Danielle
Tziporah Mae
Tziporah Brynn
Tziporah Gabrielle
Tziporah JosephineAviva Noelle

Aviva it's okay, but i don't love it.
Ayelet -i've liked this one for years.
Chaya -again, loved this for ages, but this will be commonly mispronounced in English speaking countries.
Gili -Gillie is a boy name within the Romani culture so it's odd for me to think of this as female.
Keren -okay, but I prefer Kerensa / Kerenza.
Keshet -i want to like this one, but I can't bring myself to. Not sure why. sorry.
Margalit -For some reason, this one sounds like a Game of Thrones character.
Michal -okay
Rivka -nms
Tziporah -i like itOf the others, Tal is cool and I like Shabtai "Shai" and Yoav.

Well, I found the RL Israeli names incredibly ugly, no offense, but I like Aviva, Ayelet, Keren and Margalit. I love Zipporah, but Tziporah doesn't cut the mustard for me. I think Gili looks like a cool alien name but I dislike it. Michal looks edgy but every pron.listed sounds awful on a girl to my ear. Keshet should be pretty and has a pretty meaning but sounds a bit rude.Had a quick browse of the category and these are ones that I liked as well: Adara, Adina, Adva, Ahava, Elah, Elisheva, Hadassah, Idriya, Inbar, Kelila, Kinneret, Liat, Maayan, Nahal, Nava, Rani, Shahar, Shani, Shira, Shoshannah, Sigalit, Simcha, Talya, Tamar, Tehila, Yaara, Yaen, Zahara, Zipporah

Aviva -- I should like it, but all my pea brain can process is, "Arriba! Andale! Andale!" Too many Bugs Bunny cartoons as a child. I wish I could get it out of my head. But I can't. :0(Ayelet -- I'm not sure if i'm pronouncing it correctly. Is it like eyelet lace? If so, I love the sound and the association with eyelet lace is a nice one in my head. :0)Chaya -- Eh. There could be pronunciation issues if the "ch" is a glottal "k" sound not used in English. But perhaps I'm wrong on the pronunciation. How are you saying it?Gili -- Cute.Keren -- It will be confused with Karen (= Katharine). But if that doesn't bother you, then it's still a very pretty name. Keshet -- Mesmerizing. Love it. It sounds exotic and mystical.Margalit -- Love it. :0)Michal -- Eh. Is it pronounced like the English pronunciation of Michael? Confusing. Rivka -- Love it. Tziporah -- Love it, especially with the nn Tzipi. :0) Aviva Roxane / Roxanne
Aviva Miriam
Aviva Gabrielle
Aviva LiorAyelet Hadassah

Chaya DanielleGili Navit
Gili Kinneret (An online source claims stress is on the second syllable. Is this correct?)

I imagine Zipporah would be easier to live with in an English speaking country than Tziporah. I really like Chaya, Margalit, Rivka, Ayelet and Aviva.

I like: Aviva, Margalit and Rivka.
I strongly dislike Tziporah, Michal and Keshet.
I'm pretty neutral about the other ones.I don't have trouble pronouncing any of them, but English is not my first language, so I can't help you with that.
