I love Genevieve, it's really pretty and I like Evie as a nickname. Aveline is not my cup of tea, but I do like Evelina.

Aveline, most certainly!Aveline is such a gorgeous name. Fresh, stunning, beautiful. Spunky yet sophisticated. Ever since I stumbled across it, I immediately fell in love with it. Genevieve is beautiful as well, but I feel it lacks that fresh, stunning vibe that Aveline brings to the table.

Genevieve. It's a softer sound compared to Aveline (at least when i say it), which i like out of the two.

Genevieve . . . 1. Genevieve just sounds better. Its frilly, but down to earth and classic.
2. There are rarely variations on Genevieve, but Aveline has tons (Aviline, Avelina, Aveleen, Avalyne, etc) that are kinda trendy where I live.
3. I know three babies/toddlers names Avaline and all three pronounce it differently #confusing and close to Aveline.
4. Genevieve has fantastic nicknames!
5. Genevieve sounds like an older sister to me, so I would lean towards using it forst with the option of naming a future child Aveline.
*Aveline is actually a lovely name, that I would like to see more. But, I have a soft spot for Genevieve, and feel bad that Avaline is popping in my area enough to make it locally-trendy.

thank you! I haven't met any Avalines but feel that w/ the popularity of Ava....it is just a matter of time. Interesting pts.

AvelineI've never liked Genevieve. It took me years to work out how to pronounce it and it doesn't look very appealing. Aveline on the other hand is right near the top of names I love.

Genevieve. 1) I've always loved it.
2) I prefer its nicknames.
3) With all the Avas, Averys, Evelyns, and Adelines abounding right now, Aveline loses much of her distinctiveness.

thank you, I've always loved it, but feel I am missing out ?? by passing on Aveline. I am terrible w/ decisions.

I prefer Genevieve, just because it's a family name for me. Aveline is cool, though. It's really vintagy neat, like if names were sold it would be sold at a cool flea market.

Genevieve. It sounds prettier to me than Aveline, and is more well-known. I get the feeling that a lot of people might be unsure how to pronounce Aveline.

yes, agreed... I am not sure how I would pronounce Aveline, myself. So pretty on paper, but pronunciation is tricky.

pronunciationMaybe do a poll to see how people would instinctively say it? For what it's worth, I'm saying it "AV-el-een"

I'm saying it Av-uh-leen.

I think that is closest to Aveline's French / Norman roots.

Aveline. It's more unexpected than Genevieve. And it's so prettily modern-medieval!
