[Opinions] Abel
What do you think of the name Abel? Does it bother you that the Biblical association is of a younger brother being murdered by his older brother? Do you like or dislike the fact that this name sounds like the word 'able'? It's just a name I have been thinking about lately.

I like it. I would never use it, but I like it.
I've always loved the figure of Abel as a second child who grew up with a rather difficult older sibling! I also loved his humility and that he was a shepherd. I think he is a good namesake. It being a homonym with 'able' is nice to me too!
I've always liked this name, but for me, it seems too trendy just because short unusual Biblical names for boys are so of the moment.

I really like the name Abel. The Bible story doesn't bother me. I don't believe that any word of the Bible is the word of God, anyway, and I don't believe that some of the stories really happened, and the Cain/Abel story is one that I don't believe happened. I think a lot of the people in the Old Testament, whether I believe they really existed or not, acted in crappy ways, but that doesn't take away from the Old Testament charm of some of the names.
It doesn't bother me that it sounds like the word "able", just as it doesn't bother me that Wade sounds like the words "wade" and "weighed". I'm the mother of a Will. I've had call in my life to say "Will will."

Abel is definitely usable. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it started getting notice as a hipster name. It looks like it would be trendy, but fits into the "I like unique biblical names" category that gets so much attention right now.
I honestly like Cain better, but would never use it as he is the one who did the murdering.
If you planned a sibset, I'd go with Abel, Damaris, Keturah and Jethro. ;)

I used to love the name Abel. I recently removed it from my PNL. I still like it, it's just not one of my absolute favourites anymore.
The association of him being murdered by his older brother doesn't bother me at all. Kain would probably bother me more, because he actually murdered someone in the Bible. I rather like the Biblical association.
In my language Abel doesn't sound like "able", so that doesn't matter to me.

Love it.
I adore it. Jasper & Abel sound like two really cool, funky brothers.
I was worried about the popularity of Abel since Sons of Anarchy, however I really haven't seen any popping up!
Biblical associations don't bother me.
Abel = LOVE :)
