I've known a couple Idrises - and neither of them was Welsh. One was a Palestinian Muslim, and the other was a white Muslim convert. It's also an Arabic name! :) So that being said, I don't think it would be weird on a non-Welsh person at all.
I've also known a Thora, she was a baby who passed away... Jane Thora is really cool. I don't think it's too intense for a real person at all. It's artsy and snippy.
