It's not just more male, it is masculine.
In English it's normally LYE-bur but that's probably not the Latin pronunciation. If you're speaking English, using the Latin pronunciation isn't any more "correct" than it would be to pronounce Julia with the initial sound Yoo- in English. But I think it could be LEE-bur in English too if you preferred.
I think it has potential ... to be a really eccentric name in the same way Jupiter and Sirius are. I like it, but it's a GP to me. I'm not nearly bold enough to consider using it. Liberius has more potential, maybe. I also think Liberia would be a cool name ... if it weren't the name of a nation known here mainly for instability and poverty.
