[Opinions] Lena
What do you think of the name Lena? It was a name that both my husband and I considered for Joanna, but ultimately decided against it. I heard it again yesterday on a little girl, about 4, and thought it sounded very nice. :) Any MN suggestions? We were thinking about Lena Mae.

I like it quite a bit, but slightly prefer it as a nn for Helena. Though I like Helena pronounced heh-LAY-nah and when I first see Lena I assume it's LEE-nah. But I like it pronounced LEE-nah, LAY-nah or LEH-nah. :) Lena Mae is quite pretty and works as a sister to Joanna, I think, but I don't care for the similar endings (-na) for siblings. But I'm picky like that, lol.

It is common and uninteresting where I live, a name you expect a vulgar and uneducated girl to bear (sorry, that's nothing but my feelings about the name), so obviously I don't like it.
Funnily enough, this is also the nn for Elena, my mother's name, but this fact does not make me like it.

I absolutely love this name and I pronounce it LAY-nuh.
The name is in the top ten here which bothers me a little bit. Anyway my husband and I thought about using it for our baby during my pregnancy.
These are the combos we thought about:
Lena Sophie*
Lena Coralie*
Lena Amelie
Lena Neele
The combos with the star are our favourites.
A lot of people on this board prefer the name as a nickname but in Germany it is a 'real' name. ;)
Btw I like the name of your daughter.

I like Lena (said LAY na) as a nickname for either Helena or Magdalena. I think it's a little nicknamey to stand alone, but I think it's nice and cute without being overly cutesy, if that makes sense. :-)
