1. Of couse it is usable. Just think how usable Madison from the movie "Splash" is. And "Splash" was a mediocre film while LOTR is a great film and a great fantasy novel. I can easily imagine a real person with this name. Actually I know of a young girl with this name but I think she had changed her name and had a more common one before.

Arwen is a pretty name but it might be associated with LOTR. I thought that the movies were good but I'm definitely not a huge fan. I could picture this name on a real person. It doesn't seem over the top or anything. A lot of people might bring up LOTR and ask you if you were an LOTR fanatic though. If that doesn't bother you, I think it would be fine to use. If you want to avoid any LOTR assocations, you could use Arden or Arlin / Arlyn / Arlen instead. I realize that Arlen is masculine but I don't think that it would matter all that much because Arlin and Arlyn can be feminine.

Well, we named our daughter Arwen (picked it out way before the movies came out, so it's a bit of a bummer that with the popularity of the movies, everyone thinks we're LOTR fanatics), so I definitely think it's usable. And we love it--I think it's lovely written, and it sounds strong, yet feminine (though I admit, some people think it's a boy's name when they see it written). Her mn is Claire (for a grandmother).

It's definitely the most usable LOTR names. I like ok though it's not a favorite or anythin. It has a nice sound to it.

1, it's definately usable, my cousin is named Arwen (Arwen Estrella, really) and it's not weird, she was named Arwen before the movie though.
