[Opinions] Astrud
Some friends of our who are having a baby late this summer are kicking around the name Astrud. At first I thought they meant Astrid, but no. It's Astrud, for an old musician/singer they like named Astrud Gilberto. http://www.astrudgilberto.com/I think it would be a good source for the nn Trudie, which I think is cute, but is usually associated with Gertrude, a name I really dislike (Gertrude nn Trudy is actually my mom's name -- she HATES Gertrude too.) I don't know if that nn is something our friends are considering or not though. Probably not, knowing them. Any opinions though, on Astrud with or without Trudie as a nn?

Oh my god, I LOVE Astrud Gilberto. I don't know if it's because of her, but I really like the name. I think it's beautiful. I think that Astrud is fine on its own. It doesn't need a nickname. I personally don't like the name Trudy (although I love the name Gertrude). Keep us updated on whether or not they actually name their baby Astrud. That would make my week.

Well, they aren't due until August sometime, so it'll be awhile before we know for sure. :)

I really don't care for it. Most people will think it's a misspelling; and even if that's not a problem, it's just not a pretty sounding name. I rather like the name Astrid, but even that name starts with A**, which is sure to be playground teasing fodder. If they really want to give tribute to the musician, I'd advise using it as a mn.

I don't mind Astrid but Astrud is really nms. Trudie and Gertrude are nmsaa.

If your looking for a full name for the nn Trudie, then I think Astrud is one of the best options. I can't say I like Astrud though, I do like the source, I love her music, that makes the name a bit better for me :)
To my sweet muse
Every time you rip my heart out
Every time you break it
I pick up the pen I hold in my hands
And write the most beautiful poems
But you know what
If it's alright by you
I'd rather be happy than a poet
