[Opinions] Linnea, Madeleine or Marie?
Is Madeleine a classic or is it too common?
To avoid "Maddie ", is Linnea prettier?
Finally, does Marie trump both names?
Thank you in advance.

I guess I find Marie to be very boring and common. Unless it's used for double names like Anne Marie or Carol Marie or Claire Marie, etc... Maybe Lynn Marie?
I'm a little biased against Marie because I grew up knowing quite a few Marie's my age and older and they were all not very nice people. All the double name Marie's I knew were super sweet awesome people. Truly I've liked all the double name people I've met. I know not all Marie's suck but in my experience all the ones I've gotten to know have. One I knew was a bully and a thief and another was a great aunt who betrayed the entire family for money.
My favorite combo I came up with in the past is Estelle Marie. It is so fun but sophisticated. I have no plans to use it so if you like it don't feel like you're stealing my combo. ;D
I like Linnea and Madeleine. You can't go wrong choosing either of them. Both seem very sophisticated and classy.
Linn or Linnie could be a nn for both - depending on how you pronounce Madeleine.
You know I actually meet more Marie's than I do Madeleine's for my age group. Just looked at the numbers and for my age group Marie was more popular than the all Madeleine spellings combined for my birth year. I was born when Marie had just started falling in popularity again and the spelling Madeleine had just started to be in the top 1,000. Mary and Maria are more common in my age group than Marie but I've met more Marie's my age than Maria's or Mary's.

Madeleine may be more of a modern classic (not Catherine, but not MacKenzie either). If you don't want Maddie as nn, I'd stay away from it.
Marie is so common as a mn, that even as a fn, I'm unimpressed.
I'd go with Linnea of the three, but since my niece's name ends with -lynn, I wouldn't use it in real life.

I find Madeleine somewhere between "boring" and "sweet". It is a pretty name, but I have heard it said so often that it lost it's sparkle for me.
That said, I have only met one person with the name, so I think meeting one would be lovely. The downside is "Maddie", which you mentioned. I think it cheapeans the name and would avoid it entirely. Though, I think you could get away with Dell, Line or even Laney depending on your pronunciation.
Linnea is far prettier than Madeleine in my opinion. I have it on reserve on my list in case I have twins. It has a more modern feel, yes, but it is delicate and light and not edgy or overly-frilly, like many popular names right now.
As for Marie - it oozes simple class to me. I know it is not everyone's favorite, but I find it both adorable and sophisticated at the same time.
So - (after being so longwinded!) yes... I think that Marie trumps the others in this list. All are lovely names... but Marie has that "je ne said quoi" that everyone wants in a name.
I personally have Marie-Noelle on my list, which is double-barreled and still allows for the Marie nickname.

Thanks for the great feedback!
I really love Marie-Noelle, but it does sound like Merry Christmas. I love Noelle & Noella.
Thanks for your feedback, especially about Linnea & Marie.

I agree. very Christmas-y.
But, it has the added impact of being my sisters' second names (Holly Noel and Felicia Marie)

It is very pretty. I love Marie et Noel.
I don't know if Madeleine is a bit trendy in the wake of Micaela and Madison and Mackenzie. But I like it.
I love Linnea. I think it is gorgeous. It is both delicate and has a subtle science reference.
Marie doesn't trump these names for me - it is so classic, but so expected. Linnea Marie?

I don't think Madeleine is a classic, although it's not super popular either. It has got more popular recently so I don't find it particularly exciting.
Linnea is pretty and a bit more unusual.
Marie is boring - I know so many people with Marie as a filler middle name

Linnea doesn't happen where I live, but other Lin- names have pretty well disappeared after the popularity of, first, Linda and then Lindsay. And I don't find Nay an attractive syllable to carry the main stress.
Madeleine has pronunciation problems. And spelling problems.
I voted for Marie, though I find Mary fresher.

Yes, I think Madeleine is a classic and yes I think it is too common. :) I wouldn't use it because 'Maddie' would blend in with all the Madisons and Addison. Unless I used it and assigned a different nickname early on. Like Dellie or Della or Leine "lynn".
Linnea is very nice. As much as it is less common, I still don't like it as much as Madeleine. But I would probably advocate for it,
Marie has the wonderful appeal of being simple and sweet and unusual as a first name. I think that would be my choice of the three.

I like them best in this order: Madeleine (love the spelling), Linnea and Marie. I consider Madeleine to be a classic and don't necessarily think she'd be called Maddie. My dh has always been called James (never Jim). In addition, there's an even less likelihood of today's children being given nns. Oh, it still happens, of course, however, it's not a given the way it practically was in the 50s and 60s.
If you're concerned about Madeleine's popularity, Linnea is lovely and fresh. I've never known a single one. Re: Marie, it's pretty yet I've known so many with this as their mn that it doesn't captivate me at all.

Madeleine is a classic, but I don't like how most people will probably turn it into "Mad-a-lynn". I love it with the "-line" ending. If you don't like Maddie, though, I'd steer clear of it.
Marie does trump both, for me. It would be so much more unexpected.
Linnea doesn't do anything for me, never has.

I don't like Linnea, it makes me think of maths
I really like Madeleine, and Maddie. I think if you want to avoid Maddie though, Madeleine probably isn't the best choice
My name is Marie and I really like it. I didn't used to as kids at school used to tell me my name was Maria and I was wrong (erm... I think I know my own name) plus teachers would sometimes call me Mary or pronounce it Mah-ree which really annoyed me. These days I don't have though issues (other than people loving to stick an A on the end or Anne at the beginning??), but I like my name I think it's pretty.

I consider Madeleine and Marie, sadly, to both be quite drab. Linnéa is so lively in comparison to both, I almost don't see why there's any competition.
