I really like Augustine on men. Augustine of Hippo's writings on freewill and his explanation of the nature of sin and evil are fascinating even if I don't agree with some of his other ideas. Augustine of Canterbury has some wonderful quotes like "The World is a book, and those who do not travel only see one page." He also said, "Since love grows within you, so beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul." Because of Caesar Augustus, its derivative Augustine also has an assuredly commanding quality as well.

For a girl, I do not like Augustine at all. Augusta or Augustina would be more feminine in my opinion. August is nice on either gender.

I can't really picture Augustine on a girl. It's a male name to me. For a girl I prefer Augustina.

I love Augusta, but I'm not as big a fan of Augustine. It's pretty, but the -ine ending feels overwrought.

I've always loved this name ever since the first girl I met with this name. She was in my sisters class from 3rd to 6th grade but since we were in a k-12 school I'd often see her around the school. At first I hated Auggie as a nn but I ended up eventually liking Augie. She kind of reminded me of Pippi Long Stockings only with super curly pale sandy strawberry blonde hair and glasses but she had the cute little up-turned nose and tons of freckles.

I love that Augustine feels like a combination of August and Kristine. I knew a lot of girls around my age with the names Christina / Kristina and Christine / Kristine. I had a friend named Kristina in pre-school, then one named Christine / Kristine in elementary school. I was barely friends with another girl named Christina in elementary school. Then in middle school close friends with a Christina and a girl named Kristine but she went by her last name Zink. It's weird but now that I think about it any girls named Kristine or Christina in my class growing up always ended up becoming my friend. That's probably part of why I love Augustine so much - it's like a fresher Kristine to me.

Not a huge fan, but it's all right. I like August better and for a boy.

I love Augustine! It's so rarefied and stuffily elegant.

I Think this name is really beautiful and strong sounding. I really like this name for a boy or girl.

I was in mad love with this name for a girl for a while a few years back. It's so stately, yet delicate, and it made me think of a girl in a beautiful green peacoat.

What do you like for a short form?

It seems a lot more masculine to me. I like it a lot better on a boy. However, picturing it on a girl is still interesting. It's snowy and dark green, so I get a nice picture from it. I'm afraid on a female it might come off as one of those awkwardly masculine type names. Which I'm totes into hypothetically. But I do have a hint of it being sort of musical and sophisticated, so there's still hope for my female-Augustine feelings.
