[Opinions] Airlie & Ellery
Yesterday I met the mother of a girl in my son's kindergarten class. I thought I'd share it since I've never met anyone with this name. Her name is Airlie and her daughter is called Ellery. Thoughts?JennMommy to:

I once worked with a Laura that named her child Loryn.I wished she just named her Laura. I really like when women name their daughters after themselves a la Gilmore Girls. I feel like Airlie & Ellery are too close.

I know of a girl called Airlie, about kindergarten age as well. I like on an adult too (trying to picture it right now). I think it has a nice sound, but is a bit like saying Ellie. I think Airlie is a place in Queensland. Ellery's quite nice. Not entirely my thing, but I like it.

Can't say I find Airlie appealing in either look or sound. Ellery is fine but I think of it as a masculine name.

In complete and total honesty, my brain read Airlie as "Airline" and now I can only imagine Airlie as an airline.I kind of like Ellery in a GP kind of way. It was one of my favorites when I was like 14 years old. It definitely has that trend-factor with the "Ella" sound and the surname and the unisex and whatever, and I'm surprised that it's not charted in decades (and never for girls!). I thought it was more popular than that.

Airlie is somewhat common in Australia. We have an Airlie beach, so maybe thats why. I know two Airlie's personally, but i've seen quite a few in the birth annoucements. Ellery is awesome for a boy, but terrible for a girl.

Airlie is not my cup of tea, but I actually kind of like Ellery. There was a guy in my high school named Ellery. I thought it was a bit weird, then, but it grew on me. I can see how it's more feminine though.

Oh, I know Airlie. There's a traditional Scottish folksong called "The Bonnie House of Airlie". It's a civil parish, I think. You can google if you want more info ;)Ellery has been a favourite of mine for a while (considered it for one of our daughters) but I'm not sure what I think about Airlie as a fn... It's okay, I suppose. Doesn't get more of a reaction to me than "huhn, interesting."I know some people think it's cute to do a mother-daughter matchy thing, but that's not for me.

I like Airlie. Ellery I'm not so sure about. It reminds me of a boys' name, like Ellis, but it's not horrible. I like it better than some other trendy last-name-as-first-names on girls.

Airlie doesn't seem like a name to me, like at all. It also seems more over the top with Ellery. Ellery isn't bad, it just seems like it's trying too hard and makes me think of celery.
