I guess my impressions mirror yours.
Usually I don't like extra letters, but in this case Faye seems more complete and (yes) normal.
Fae is very fairy. I love the idea of fairies, but I guess I wouldn't name children after them. I am not too keen on Pixie either, even though it is a bold choice.

I read once that there is a Doctor (surgeon of some kind) in Wales named Pixie. Had to respect it more after that, but I personally don't take it seriously.
