All I can think of when I hear it is the song "Stacey's Mom." =X

As a Stacey...I am perfectly fine with my name. The only issues I've had with it was after that Stacy's Mom song came out - I cringe every time I hear it. The only time I ever got in trouble at school was because a group of boys followed me around singing it until I snapped and yelled at them. I definitely like the -ey spelling. I used to get really annoyed that no one spelled it right, but now I don't mind so much. I had occasionally wished my full name was Anastasia because it was more my style but then I met a really terrible Anastasia and now I'm glad that I'm just Stacey.

It doesn't give my ear much to really grab onto and enjoy, but I think it's okay as a name; nothing wrong with it, no negative associations.

I like it! I think it's really upbeat and quirky and awesomely poofy hair 80s teenagery.

I think the same!

Seems a bit dated, and even if it wasn't it has a prickly feeling to me.I like it as a short form of Anastasia.

For a boy or a girl?I happen to list Stacey on boys, but prefer the (less legit, I know) spelling Stacie on girls. I do think it is dated... very late seventies and early eighties to me. So, I definately know people my age with the name. However, I like names that are last generation - not quite dated anough to be retro chic, but not new enough to be considered trendy. Stacey is a perfect example. I do prefer names that seem a bit more complete usually (Caroline over Carrie, Cassandra over Cassie, Elizabeth over Lizzie, etc). However, I know that Stacey is one of those names that sound better as is, like Kelly. Still, I think if I were to use Stacey today, I would make it short for Anastasie or Anastasia for a girl. For a boy - I think it is fine as simply Stacey. And, I like it as such.

It's okay, but only just. Very seventies/eighties and didn't hang on as long as other names of that era.

Why do you think that is?

*shrugs* Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe no reason at all; maybe just random.
