I know a five year old Edwin from Honduras, and the name has grown on me for a kid. The only other Edwin I can think of is my cousins' late grandfather, who was a farmer. Since Winnie is a common nn for Winifred, I don't see how Win would be odd, but I'd probably stick to Ed/ Eddie.
