Those are great examples of cultural stigmas.
Neither Beddy or Bloomer would get an eye bat where I live in the States. In fact, Bloomer would be more readily associated with flowers, and thus desired.
Same with some names like Fanny. It means something different in different cultures. It's still popular in the Philippines, because it doesn't mean anything there. In the states, it means "butt" or waist, so its not good, but certainly not as bad as in countries where Fanny means something a little more private.
