[Facts] Barbara and Margaret similarity??
My name is Barbara but have so frequently been called Margaret over my life. Have any other Barbara's or Margaret's
had the same experience? Trying to work out why this is so. Same era perhaps? The a's? Can't understand this. Quite perplexed!
Would love to hear if this has happened to and other Barbara!! or Margaret's being called Barbara. Would love to get to the
bottom of it. Thanks Barb

I have been called barbara by a few people. When my psychotherapist did it today, i was astonished.
They have a very similar sound pattern, two (or three, depending on how you say it) syllables with two "AR"s in the same places. And, the initial sounds (/b/, /m/) are both articulated with the lips. People probably just mishear or misremember.
My name is Claudia, but it's surprising how often I get called "Gloria," for the same reasons.

That occurred with me on one occasion. I've been informed that I speak quickly - and that I sometimes half mumble. I think the "Margr" "Barbar" {phonetic 'Barbr' may frequently sound similar - especially when spoken or introduced from those who speak as I do - or in the midst of additional background noises. If you prefer to be called by either of these names, please let us know.
