[Opinions] Annes
What do you think of Annes as a name? It sprang to mind this afternoon and I rather like it. I think I'd pronounce it kind of like AN-es.Thanks!http://www.babynames.com/namelist/9852886

It's not bad at all...it reminds me of Ines / Inez (one of my faves).

It sounds like anus.

Agree, sorry :/Not a direct sound but similar enough to be my first though.

I really don't see how...Annes has an AN- (like Anne) sound not an AY- sound.

Perhaps Annice...If you think it sounds enough unlike anus to use, then go for it. I think the spelling Annice would be prettier, and at least if she didn't like the pronunciation of AN-es, she could pronounce it an-EES.

It's quite nice, more unique than Anne but still with that simple, classic, elegant feel.

Thank you! I'm always happy to have positive feedback. lol

It looks like Anne-plural. But I like the sound a lot. Annis and Innes and Inès and Annest / Anest (Welsh version of Agnes) and Agnès (an YES) are all favourites.

That's my way of thinking. It does seem plural but I really enjoy its look and sound. I've never heard of Annest before. Thanks for mentioning it!

Hmmm ... well, it's a whole lot better than Agnes, but I can see two problems looming large.Wouldn't some folks think of it as one syllable rather than two, like Anne's?And isn't it a bit too seedy?

Yeah, the whole Anne's or plural Anne thing seems to be the main issue. I've also considered that some people would pronounce it "ANS" instead of "AN-es" as well.
Thanks!

I realllllly dislike it. It looks like you're referring to more than one woman named Anne. It also reminds me of anus.

That's a good point. The plural Anne thing didn't come to mind. Annes doesn't bring to mind "anus" for me though. Thanks!

It looks more like ANN-es, to me. Pronouncing it like Anise isn't instinctive to me at all, and I'm not sure in what language it would be instinctive. It's very pretty to look at, however.

I've always heard Anise as AN-is. I use Anise as my comparison but to just say AN-es would be better. I'll edit. :)

Oh, that's good to know! I'm sorry for the misunderstanding on my part :)

Anise (at least the plant) is pronounced "ANN-iss" though, right? I'm pretty sure... but it does look like "ah-NEES" and a lot of people probably pronounce it like that. In that regard Annes would be a more phonetic spelling. Or Anness

For me Anise and Annes sound near identical. That's like when I say Agnes it sounds like AG-nis. The only time -nes is ever pronounced as intended in my accent is when it's at the start of a word or name. I'm from the South. lol
