It makes me think of Miss Kitty from the Gunsmoke radio show. Kat/Cat is my second choice.

Yesyesyes to Kitty! I named a wonderful cat Catherine just so she could be known as Kitty, but it's excellent for humans as well. I wouldn't go for Cat, though - just from personal associations.
